How Mudik Occurs in Our Society

          Mudik is an activity that is done by the migrant workers to go back to their hometown. The highest Mudik usually happen from Jakarta to Java Provinces. This phenomenon happen every year and becomes the culture or tradition in Indonesia.
          The migrant workers who stay in the big cities such as, Jakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Bandung, and others in long time, they will get homesick because they miss their parents, their siblings, their neighbours, the atmosphere of their hometown, their mother’s cooking, and all things that they can only find it in their hometown. This longing is caused by the long distance between the migrant workers’ work place and their hometown, so they can’t go home everyday because it spend a lot of money for the transportation. Then, when there are some big days such as Ied Mubarak and Ied Fitri, there will be long holiday for about a week to ten days. That moment is used by the migrant workers to go back to their hometown to waste their holiday with their family. The migrant workers go back to their hometown several days before the bug day begin. The migrant workers travel from their work place to their hometown by different kinds of transportations. The common transportations that are used by the migrant workers are car, motorcycle, and bus. Millions people go back to their hometown, and it cause the traffic jam in almost the whole highway in Indonesia. When they arrive in their hometown, they wil assemble with their family and their neighbours. They celebrate the big day in their hometown for several days, then they go back to big cities to work again as usual.
          That is how Mudik occurs in Indonesia. This phenomenon is the unique culture that is happened since long time ago.
